Dr. Magda Ahmed Bagnied

Professor & Head of Department
Biography

After my master's degree, I joined the American TV Network News: ABC & NBC News, Cairo Bureau, as an assistant correspondent & research assistant. It was then time for the Egyptian Peace Initiative. During that time, I had the opportunity to work with distinguished correspondents, producers, and above all working with the late anchor of ABC Mr. Peter Jennings. However, meeting with late President Sadat several times and former President Jimmy Carter and other celebrities like Ms. Barbara Walters was the most rewarding experience. Among the high light of this job, I was asked to give a simultaneous translation on air in English for ABC News headquarter office in New York for the late President Sadat while he was giving his speech on Jerusalem at the Knesset. On the other hand, Ms. Waters was covering the story from Jerusalem. Working with US television taught me more than what I’ve learned in class! The experience of working at US networks helped me to select the topic for my Ph.D. later. Although I registered for my Ph. D study at Cairo University, I had to travel to the US, as most of the material was there. I used the National Archives to watch the video tapes for the peace initiative story for the trip and got on loan the rest of the video tapes from Nashville University. Most of my research studies about the peace initiative was done in the United State. I had a scholarship from the University of Missouri and had an American Advisor on the topic at the University of George Washington. After obtaining my doctorate degree I worked for several years at the American University in Cairo, at the Mass Communiation department for several years. Another experience in media was my work on the European service of Radio Cairo as a presenter, producer and interviewer, where I interviewed top notch Egyptian women and men of achievements. “Egyptian women today”, and “Stars on Egyptian Land”, this programs focused on men such as Dr. Magdi Yakaoub, and winners of the Noble award such as Dr. Zoweil, and novelist Naguib Mahfouz and much more. on the other side the other program focused on Egyptian women today. The program won several awards in Egypt and from Europe. Frequent guest on Nile TV & other shows on media related topics
